Meet: Original Floristry

This month we're getting to know Alice Cooper at Original Floristry.

Alice is a Floral Stylist based in South West London. She puts together flower arrangements for shop windows, birthdays, dinners, brunches, lunches ... and now Supper Clubs! Alice recently made our tables look stunning at our monthly dinner in Wandsworth so we wanted to get to know her a little better.

When and how did Original Floristry begin?

I started Original Floristry in May 2018. It all happened so quickly. It was around the time of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. I know a great boutique called ‘Renascence London’ in Chelsea and they very kindly allowed me to take over their window. I used all kinds of flowers and mixed them in with their fabulous clothes, it was so much fun. I got my first client from this window display and I’m so grateful to them.

What is it you love most about your job, and what’s the most challenging part?

I love working with something naturally beautiful. There are countless flowers, different colours and textures and I find this really inspiring.

Flowers are heavy. Try holding 10 Delphiniums, 5 Hydrangea, 10 Roses, a few Peonies and 2 vases and get on a train without anything dying or breaking. HEAVY.

Where do you go, physically and online, to get inspiration?

I always try and visit the venue beforehand for initial ideas. I think it’s so important for your design to compliment the space. My design is always finalised when I go to New Covent Garden Flower Market, if you can’t get a specific flower you have to adapt your design, but it’s all part of the fun! There’s a really gorgeous garden centre in London called Battersea Flower Station. Every time I visit this place, it’s like entering another world and I get so many ideas from there.

What’s been the most memorable moment so far and why?

A lovely client of mine wanted to go into business with me. I don’t think I have ever been so flattered in my entire life.

What food could you not live without?

PASTA. I cannot live without it. Pasta is life.

Do you have a favorite food memory?

I was at Leeds Uni, it was my 21st Birthday and I was on a night out celebrating with friends. A few hours into the night we all turned to one another and admitted that we wanted to go home and eat my Colin the Caterpillar cake…You just can’t beat a Colin.

Who would you invite round as a special dinner party guest?

A special party guest……Tom Hardy ;)

What do you want from the bar?

A bar. This makes me think of a countryside pub, which makes me think of a pub lasagne, you know the ones that come with a slice of garlic bread on the side……See I’m obsessed with pasta. If I could only have a drink at the bar it would have to be a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
