It’s National Gin Day, which means the only thing you should be sipping on this weekend is a refreshing gin and tonic in the sunshine (fingers crossed). Here’s the recipe for our favourite crowd pleaser with super seasonal grapefruit and sage.
First of all, make the grapefruit cordial, this couldn’t be simpler and can be done up to 7 days in advance.
Place the sugar and water into a saucepan and stir on a low heat until all the sugar had dissolved. Increase to a high heat and simmer, without stirring, for 10 minutes.
Once the mixture has cooled slightly, add the sugar syrup to the grapefruit juice in a jar or bottle and pop it in the fridge.
Remember, what you don’t use in the cocktails can just be used as cordial diluted in still or sparkling water instead.
When you are ready to mix your gin and tonics...
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Pour in the gin and cordial.
- Top up with tonic and gently stir.
- Garnish with a slice of grapefruit and the sage leaves.
